The Art of
Mythic Energy Retreat
A Retreat to Explore Energy Healing, Mythology & Depth Psychology in Dialogue
(October 2027)

For more than two decades, I have taught Reiki as far more than a healing modality. While Reiki remains the foundation of my work, my teaching has always drawn from a broader exploration of energy, symbolism, philosophy, psychology, and the many traditions that seek to understand what it means to be fully alive.
Students who have studied with me know that a Reiki class is rarely just about Reiki. It is an invitation to explore the deeper patterns that shape our lives.
Reiki, mythology, and depth psychology are often treated as separate disciplines. I have come to understand them as different languages describing the same human experience.
Over the years, my studies in energy healing, meditation, philosophy, mythology, and, most recently, a Master's degree in Mythology and Depth Psychology have revealed a common thread: energy, symbol, and psyche are inseparable aspects of the same living reality.
This retreat is the first expression of that integrated vision.
I call it The Art of Mythic Energy.
By mythic energy, I do not simply mean life force or healing energy. I mean the living relationship between energy, symbol, imagination, and psyche. The myths or stories we inherit, the stories we tell ourselves, the places we inhabit, and the symbols that move us all shape how we experience ourselves and the world.
The myths we live by influence how we perceive the world, the choices we make, the relationships we cultivate, and ultimately the lives we create.
Together, through the art of Reiki, the study of mythology, the insights of depth psychology, and the remarkable landscape of Schloss Kalkhorst, we will explore how presence allows myth to become experience, symbol to become insight, and energy to become a way of living more consciously in the world.

The Story of Schloss Kalkhorst
Built between 1853 and 1874, Schloss Kalkhorst is a Neo-Gothic manor house nestled within an English-style landscape park of forests, gardens, and walking paths. Originally created as a private family estate, the castle remained in the von Biel family until the early twentieth century.
Following the Second World War, the estate took on a very different role, serving as a medical and psychiatric facility, including a tuberculosis sanatorium. Among its patients was the celebrated German author Christa Wolf, whose experiences at the castle later inspired her novella August.
Since returning to private ownership in 1999, Schloss Kalkhorst has been lovingly restored as a protected historic landmark. Today it is a place of gathering, creativity, and reflection—hosting concerts, exhibitions, weddings, and educational retreats while preserving the rich history woven into its walls and surrounding landscape.
Today, Schloss Kalkhorst offers more than a beautiful setting. It is a place where history, landscape, and human experience converge—an ideal home for exploring the relationship between energy, myth, and the human psyche.
For me, this place also carries a deeply personal significance. Schloss Kalkhorst bears my family name, and my ancestors came from this very region. When my family immigrated to America, they slightly altered the spelling of our surname so it would sound less German and more Scandinavian. Yet the connection to this place and to our family seal remains. In many ways, returning here feels like a homecoming. There is much more to that story, but that is one I will save for those who join us.
